Arts and Culture
The City of Glendale is home to a multitude of talented artists, arts organizations and cultural events that play an important role in bettering the lives of residents and making our city a well-rounded, culturally rich community.
Recognizing that a vibrant arts and culture community attracts both residents and businesses, City leaders made a purposeful effort to expand the role they play in planning Glendale’s future. From the purchase and rehabilitation of the historic Alex Theatre Performing Arts and Entertainment Center, to the support of the new Glendale Arts Alliance, to the creation of the City’s Arts and Culture Commission, to the inclusion of the arts into all aspects the City’s new Downtown Specific Plan, arts and culture activities have been woven into the fabric of the City’s economic development efforts.
These arts and cultural institutions are proven catalysts for growth and prosperity and help to attract investment in our community, generate jobs, encourage tourism and, most of all, make Glendale the jewel of Los Angeles County.
Glendale Arts
In May 2008, the Glendale Redevelopment Agency approved the formation of Glendale Arts, a private nonprofit organization charged with managing the Alex Theatre and coordinating resources that are designed to benefit Glendale-based artists, arts organizations, businesses, government agencies, and local schools.
Glendale Arts believes that a great city is defined by its arts. We envision a supportive environment that encourages and values all artistic disciplines and believe that the arts are an essential ingredient for a vibrant, creative, and economically healthy community.
